Van Gogh Inspired Collages

Van Gogh Inspired Collage: After learning about Van Gogh we got to experiment with placing tissue paper on construction paper. once that completed drying we took oil pastels and drew on the background. Using what we learned from Van Gogh and his Starry Night painting of a background with movement into our project to enhance the image that we were creating. Once we completed the background we added a silhouette of a landscape. I chose to do an image of Africa, that's why for the background I chose to do some lines and patterns rather than large swirly movements. I also added oil pastels onto some of my silhouette on the tree, elephant, and giraffe to help the viewer to understand the picture better.

Extension Activity: I would have my students complete the background of the picture the same why that we did in class. I would then have them decide their silhouette based off of whether it is urban, rural, or suburban. They would have to justify their answer by writing a small description of what community they chose and how their project reflects that.
